Ever wondered what’s so great about the instant pot?  Are there any benefits to having an electric pressure cooker?  Is the instant pot worth buying?  What is so special about the instant pot? I’ll help you sort all that out!  Here are FIVE great reasons that you need an instant pot!

I guess I’ll admit it.  I owned an instant pot for an entire year before I got brave enough to use it!

A few things held me back. I wasn’t sure if it was dangerous.  I know I had read plenty of things saying it was totally safe, but it still seemed a little daunting!  I was scared of it, I wasn’t sure how to use it, and I wasn’t sure what to make in it.  Those three things were enough to keep me from pulling it out and using it!

7 Things NOT to Do with Your Instant Pot

I’m not even sure what convinced me to finally give it a try now.  But, I started with a water test.  Then, the second thing I made was a chicken!  Of course, now I can’t believe it took me so long to come around!  It is now my favorite tool in the kitchen, and I can’t believe I ever did without it!  We use it at minimum once a week, and I’m looking into getting a second one!

I have the Instant Pot DUO60 6 quart 7-in-one multi-use programmable pressure cooker.  It even makes yogurt, and yes I have done it and it was a success!)

I’m really interested in getting the Instant Pot Duo MINI 3 quart for the side items!

So let’s get into exactly what an instant pot can do!

The Instant Pot Makes Food Quick

If you are a busy person that needs food on the table quickly, then the instant pot is exactly what you need.  That’s how I originally ended up with an instant pot – I wanted fast.  By the time we go to CrossFit after work and school, we are tired and starving.  We also need to squeeze in time for homework and shower time for our son!

This allows me to potentially have a full meal on the table within 20 minutes with very minimal hands on. And I can even make it healthy!!

You Forgot to Meal Plan

It happens.  We have a hectic week, forget to meal plan, and life is swallowing you whole.  Don’t worry – the instant pot has you covered.

You can pull the chicken out of the deep freeze (or other meat) and within 20-30 minutes it is done.  No thawing, no headache – just straight to the cooking.

Use the Instant Pot to Make the Perfect “Poached” Egg

I have always taken pride in the fact that I’m a great cook. Unfortunately, I still struggle with poached eggs.  Sometimes, they come out right and other times they are a total flop.  I can’t manage to be consistent.  That is, until I got my instant pot and I made an egg in it.  I won’t make a “poached egg” any other way now.

You can do this very easily by purchasing these silicone egg poacher cups.  Place the trivet in your instant pot, and pour in a cup of water in the bottom.  You lightly spray the silicone cups with a cooking spray of your choice so the egg won’t stick.  Break an egg in the cups, and place them carefully on the trivet.  Put on the lid of your instant pot, and press “Steam”.  The minutes will depend on your desire for how done you like your yolk and it’s usually between 3-5 minutes.  We do 4 minutes here.  You may find you have to play with it a little bit to find your perfect number.

You Can Even Make Dessert With Your Instant Pot

It just so happens I am also a fantastic baker.  Even better than I am at cooking. However, you can totally “bake” a dessert with your instant pot.  Technically, I’m a purist, and I love my oven.  This comes in handy though when you need multiple dessert options and you only have one oven! I used it at Christmas to make a Cookies and Cream Cheesecake while I used my oven for other desserts.

The Instant Pot Makes Clean-Up Easy

You can sauté and sear directly in it and then switch straight to the pressure cooking function. You won’t have to dirty more pans. And the liner can just go in the dishwasher when you are done! (Not only do I wash my liner, but I also put the ring and the lid in the dishwasher on the top rack!)

I hope this helps convince you that you need an instant pot!!  Do you have another reason you love your electric pressure cooker?  Or do you have a recipe?  Please link to great recipes below, as I’m always on the hunt for more recipes to incorporate into our rotation!
