Two Simple Breakfast Swaps I Made to Lose Weight

Here are two healthy breakfast swaps to help easing into your weight loss journey a little easier!

Before I set off on my journey to lose weight, my breakfast habits were horrendous. Honey buns, little chocolate donuts, a coke. I mean – HORRIBLE.

I was eating these sugary breakfasts, spiking my glucose, and then crashing mid-morning. Around 10:30 am, I would get sweaty, shaky, dizzy, and nauseated. No amount of food could really fix the spiral. And I’d feel bad the rest of the day. Sometimes into the next day.

I’ll be honest.  I love eggs and bacon, but I don’t do well with heavy food in the mornings.  Even after starting crossfit, and completely changing my lifestyle – I can’t do a lot of heavy AM foods.  Plus, I like to eat at my desk at work.  It’s my signal to myself it’s time to get started – get focused.

So I revamped by diet…starting with breakfast.

Here are my 2 main breakfast swaps:

1. Cereal. I ditched the sugary cereal and went with Greek yogurt topped with a protein based granola. I love the Vanilla Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt topped with peanut butter KIND granola.

1 cup of lucky charms with 2% milk is 300 calories according to My Fitness Pal. With 25 grams carbs, 2 grams of protein, and 1 gram of fat. (And let’s face it. It was likely 2 cups).

Meanwhile, that Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup of kind granola is 210 calories, 34 grams of carbs, 17 grams of protein, and 3.5 grams of fat.

And the yogurt and granola keep me full until my scheduled (healthy) snack.  (They also happen to make a great afternoon snack, too.)

2. Honey buns/muffins/donuts. I replaced with Kodiak minute muffins. The double chocolate are amaze-balls.

A honey bun is 290 calories, 35 grams of carbs (not the good kind either), 3 grams of protein, and 16 grams of fat.

While the Kodiak minute muffin is 240 calories, 49 grams of carbs (also whole grain), 8 grams of protein, and 2.5 grams of fat.

These two simple swaps have completely turned my breakfasts around!!!!  What swaps have you made?  I love new healthy food suggestions!  I have found my weight and health does better with small incremental changes so it’s a lifestyle change!
